Recent AQA Examiner Training

About me

Hi, I’m Luke, a supportive and challenging head of department at a high performing school in Bristol. If you decide to work with me, your child will benefit from my current practice as a geography teacher of the AQA specification at both A-level and GCSE. With outstanding results of over 40% 9-7 & A* to A, your child will be in both safe and inspiring hands.

In preparation for exams and assessments, they can expect high quality exam practice as a result of my recent exam board training. On top of this, they will enjoy high levels of engagement with the subject and hopefully develop the desire to study the subject further. Our department was awarded the Geography Association Secondary Quality Mark and subsequently saw an increase in uptake of the subject for GCSE and A-Level of over 100%.

Hopefully, your child will be part of a new generation of students who go on to study such an important subject! What separates me from other tutors is my dynamic approach to learning. Your child will benefit from enhanced coaching and mentoring as a result of my masters in coaching and mentoring from a top 10 university. To prove this, previous private tutoring students have received top grades, exceeded their target grades and gone on to study the subject at A-level and University (including Oxford).

And breathe. All of the qualification bumf aside, you can expect a highly personalised approach. I’ll get to know you and your student; exactly where they are and provide an essential road map to achieving your definition of success. We’ll aim high together and I’ll push to make sure they are challenged. Resources, homework’s and learning checklists come as standard and I’ll even link in with your teacher to make sure that what we teach is congruent and time effective.

Lesson structure typically looks like: Recall and recap, connect prior learning; activate new learning - explain and develop then apply to an exam context. Recap and then provide homework or additional practice. And if that isn’t enough? We might engage with some coaching around your aspirations, why geography underpins the future and how to get to your next step. If you want to know more - let’s chat….!

Experience with Neurodiversity and SEND

Worth noting is that I hold additional SEN / SEND qualifications. I am highly adept at teaching neurodivergent students including those with ADHD / ADD, Autism & Aspergers, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia as well as those who are physically impaired. I have a proven track record of adding value to students who face additional challenges in the classroom. Should you have any concerns about physical or cognitive access, it would be best to have a chat before booking anything.
