Hello, I’m Gill. I am a highly experienced Geography educator and a Senior Examiner for Pearson Edexcel, specialising in GCSE, IGCSE and A Level Geography.

Many students revise hard for Geography but still miss out on top grades because they are unsure how examiners actually award marks. Strong subject knowledge is important, but success in Geography also depends on understanding how to structure answers, apply case studies effectively and meet the precise expectations of the mark scheme.

As a Senior Edexcel examiner, I work directly with exam papers and marking schemes. This gives me a unique insight into how answers are assessed, the common mistakes students make, and the techniques that consistently achieve the highest marks. I use this expertise to help students refine their exam technique and transform their knowledge into clear, high-scoring responses.

My tutoring focuses on three key areas that drive results:

• Examiner insight – understanding exactly how marks are awarded

• Answer structure and exam technique – developing clear, analytical responses that meet the highest level descriptors

• Case study mastery – learning how to apply examples effectively to secure top marks

I have supported students across a wide range of abilities, from those seeking to strengthen their foundations to high-achieving students aiming for Grades 8–9 at GCSE and A/A* at A Level. Lessons are structured, supportive and tailored to each student’s goals.

I also have considerable experience teaching and supporting students with SEND, including [dyslexia, ADHD and autism]. Geography can be a demanding subject for students who process information differently, with its dense case studies, extended writing and layered command words. My approach is to break those demands down: chunked content, clear visual structures for essay planning, scaffolded writing frames, and plenty of processing time. I am familiar with the access arrangements available in exams and how to prepare students to use them well, so that the support they are entitled to actually translates into marks.
