About me

Eleanor Jones is a dynamic and high-achieving Head of Geography with over three years in departmental leadership, currently running one of Bristol’s most successful geography departments. Her school consistently ranks in the top 3 in the city for progress in geography, with students regularly exceeding national averages at both GCSE and A-Level. Eleanor’s curriculum design, classroom expertise, and leadership have earned her department the Geography Association Secondary Quality Mark, a national recognition of excellence in geographical education.

Her subject is thriving under her leadership: over 150 students are currently studying GCSE geography, with 75% of Year 9 students opting in, a reflection of her ability to inspire engagement and deliver quality teaching. At A-Level, her students not only achieve top grades, but go on to study Geography at prestigious universities, including Oxford and Cambridge—an outcome rarely seen without exceptional teaching and guidance.

Eleanor’s approach is rooted in academic rigour, student-centred teaching, and real-world relevance. Her lessons combine high-quality explanations, interactive tasks, and thoughtful differentiation, ensuring that students gain both knowledge and confidence. Beyond the classroom, Eleanor mentors early-career teachers, leads cross-curricular curriculum planning, and contributes to whole-school teaching and learning development.

Why Parents Choose Eleanor ✅ A Proven Track Record of Student Success: From national awards to Oxbridge admissions, Eleanor’s track record is built on results. Her students achieve not only high grades, but long-term academic growth—exactly what parents want from a private tutor.

High-Level Subject & Exam Expertise: Having designed and delivered geography curricula across all major UK exam boards, Eleanor knows exactly how to guide students through their specifications, decode exam command words, and master case study application.

Tailored Support at Every Level: Whether your child needs to build basic understanding or refine top-grade exam technique, Eleanor adapts her teaching style to suit their needs. Her tutoring is structured, clear, and responsive, with step-by-step guidance that boosts both confidence and competence.

Outstanding Online Teaching Skills: Eleanor’s excellence isn’t confined to the classroom. She is a highly skilled online geography tutor, using a range of digital platforms and resources to engage students virtually. Her lessons feature interactive mapping tools, annotated case studies, digital quizzes, and real-time feedback, all delivered with the same clarity and enthusiasm as her in-person teaching.

Warm, Professional Communication: As a school leader, Eleanor understands the importance of partnership with parents. She offers transparent progress updates, listens to student and family goals, and ensures that every tutoring relationship is built on trust and mutual respect.

Experience with Neurodiversity and SEND

As an experienced geography tutor, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of students, including many with SEND and neurodiverse profiles such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and Dyslexia. Supporting these learners isn’t about a one-size-fits-all approach—it's about understanding each student’s unique way of processing the world and adapting my teaching accordingly.

For students with ASD, I create a calm, structured learning environment with clear, consistent routines. Visual aids, timelines, and colour-coded resources help make abstract concepts more tangible, while giving students advance notice of lesson content and transitions reduces anxiety and builds confidence. I also focus on linking geography topics to areas of personal interest, which often sparks deeper engagement and curiosity.

When working with students with ADHD, I keep sessions dynamic and interactive, using short, focused tasks and incorporating movement and breaks where needed. I aim to channel their energy into active learning strategies like games, debates, and map challenges, helping to maintain concentration while reinforcing key geographical skills.

For learners with Dyslexia, I prioritise clarity and accessibility. I use dyslexia-friendly fonts and backgrounds, reduce the volume of text where possible, and lean into visual learning through diagrams, flowcharts, and mind maps. I also provide scaffolded support for writing tasks, helping students to organise their ideas and use key vocabulary confidently.

Ultimately, my approach is rooted in flexibility, empathy, and high expectations. I work closely with parents and, where appropriate, other professionals to ensure that each student’s needs are fully understood and met. Geography is a subject that connects us to the world around us—and every student deserves the opportunity to explore it in a way that feels meaningful and accessible to them.
